De anve to scknowledge receipt of your lettar
8.261/2 of 6th July enclosing for mar observations a copy
of a despatch from the Acting-dovernor of Hong Kong to the
Secretary of State.
The question of the duties of the Consulting
Engineers to which referenco in mods therein was fully
dealt with in our letter to ym dated 7th October 1908
which was in answer to a dispatch of Sir S, Tugart, and wo
have nothing in add to the viewa then expressed in our
letter
to which vo ventura to direct attention.
The matter would probably not wayo again arisen
had wo not thought it necessary, in view of two Chlef Resident Engineer's recent appointment, to acquaint him in
mur General Letter No. 161 dated 14th April 1910 with our
position with regard to the bridges,at the same time
requesting him to bring tant letter to the notion of His
